Totesport Trophy

A superb card at Newbury today with the perennially competitive, Totesport Trophy the feature race. Harry Tricker has excellent form, particularly from the Greatwood and looks the obvious choice considering his trainer's record. However I am going with Mamlook who looks much improved this season and comfortably won a good handicap at Ascot last with plenty in hand. Good enough to finish second in the Cesarewitch and also second to Celestial Halo, he is fully entitled to be thereabouts. It is always worthwhile looking for an outside bet in these races and Frontier Dancer (not without claims) looks a nice price at 33/1.

Four weeks before the Festival, it will be very interesting and hopefully illuminating to see Denman (how will he get on with AP?), Master Minded (has he recovered?) and Diamond Harry (decent opposition) in action, while Bellvano has the opportunity to add substance to UK novice hurdle form. Made in Time is also worth monitoring in the bumper. He showed enough promise when winning at Ffos Las for AP to recommend to his employer and with the Irish Bumper scene looking sub standard this term, could be a player in March.

Elsewhere today, Long Run continues his education at Warwick and at Gowran, Luska Lad must have a squeak in the Red Mills hurdle.

good luck and enjoy......
