Betfair Ascot Chase

Despite the cold weather, Ascot, Fairyhouse and Haydock go ahead today. Although perhaps not as informative as last Saturday, a number of Festival contenders, including Planet of Sound, Menorah, Alaivin, Burton Port and Finian's Rainbow, are worth monitoring. Planet of Sound has been put forward by quite a few judges for the Ryanair, but he will do well to live up to those expectations by beating the exciting Herecomesthetruth who should benefit from having Ruby on board.

From a punting perspective, double declarations make the handicap hurdle difficult to assess but Midnight Sail (albeit running over shorter distance) is worth keeping an eye on at Ascot. Haydock offers the more interesting betting opportunities with chances given to Bouggler, Adams Island and Edgebrier. The Blue Square Gold Cup is the feature race and looks like a re run of the Welsh National. Coe ran well enough there, but usually reserves his best for the Lancashire track and could be value at 8s. A mention is also necessary for Katie Walsh on board Pomme Tiepy who should be suited by the testing conditions.

At Fairyhouse, the National trial looks very competitive and hopefully illuminating, while Siege of Ennis (unlucky last time) has a chance in the handicap hurdle.

good luck......
