Fairyhouse Grade 1s

Hopefully Fairyhouse goes ahead today after Sunday's untimely abandonment. Living near the track, I can vouch for the terrible weather recently and very testing going can be expected. However this is nothing new and should not unduly mar the form.

This card over the past decade has been highly informative with the ensuing form lines establishing a high standard. Recent previous winners of the Royal Bond include Moscow Flyer, Newmill and Hardy Eustace. This afternoon sees Dunguib stepping up to this level on his inexorable path to stardom. Everything he has shown so far suggests he can go all the way. Described by A.P. McCoy as the "best bumper horse I have ever seen", he is impossible to oppose despite been taken on by 2 decent sorts.

One of the most significant trends this season has been the superiority of Festival form. Ninetieth Minute was an impressive winner of the Coral Cup and he looks the type to improve from his first outing and should succeed against recalcitrant chaser Catch Me.

The Drinmore looks very open with a field of progressive types. Conditions mitigate against quite a few, with both trip and going negating their chances. Pandorama has so far shown the greatest potential but apparently would be better going the other way round. The 6/1 available might look very generous if he overcomes that possible weakness. Pesoto looks a false favourite while Alpha Ridge would surely prosper over further. Adrian Maguire is not known for over facing his horses and the lightly raced Mr Warbucks could be the one at a nice price. However very much a race for watching rather than punting.

best of luck.......
