The Tank is back!!

Denman reclaimed his position at the top of the chasing tree with a fantastic victory in the Hennessy. He repeated his weight carrying performance of 2007 against a higher rated field. While not as breathtaking, this run was more meritorious after his travails of last season. Ruby gave him an excellent ride, ensuring he saved a bit for the finish. Taking everything into account it was a brilliant piece of training by Paul Nicholls to restore Denman to full power. Hopefully both he and Kauto will remain in fine fettle until the rematch in March.

Contrary to this corner's expectation, Denman's price shortened before the off. One wonders if this was due to those who were aware of his work with Big Bucks during the week. This snippet of information curiously only came to light afterwards!!

The Champion Hurdle picture appears muddled after the Fighting Fifth but best to ignore this form due to the lack of pace. Nonetheless, Binocular was disappointing considering stable well being and has it all to prove at Kempton where no doubt he will meet Go Native who should not be underestimated.

While Binocular floundered, Nicky Henderson showed he has plenty of strength in depth with good winners in Bellvano, Punchestowns, Quantitiveeasing & Finian's Rainbow and could be the main rival to the Nicholls's yard for the remainder of the season.

A pity that the top class card at Fairyhouse was abandoned and hopefully the rain will cease to let it go ahead on Wednesday.

cheers...
