Hard to credit that Mon Mome went off 9/2 favourite for welsh national only 3 months ago after winning decent handicap at cheltenham and returned yesterday at 100/1 winner of the big one. Ruefully have to admit to backing him, alas in 2008. Elsewhere on card delighted with Solwhit justifying support with excellent victory in Aintree hurdle. Honourable mention also to runner- up Fivefourthree who should make a smashing chaser in time. Elsewhere on card Leading Contender put in an eyecatching show and Copper Bleu lost nothing in defeat (should also be capable over fences).
As for Aintree overall, there was the usual long priced winners, upsetting Chelteneham form but the most impressive showing was from Walkon on thursday, the best race was Voy per Ustedes just getting the better of Schindlers Hunt and one for the future was the winner of mares bumper, Candy Creek. One point of note, was that Paul Nicholls found winners hard to come by, despite strength of his team and good showings from Big Fella Thanks, American Trilogy and Inchidaly Rock. Illustrates how competitive it is!!!!!
cheers....

very good meeting slightly overshadowed by mon mome shock although with hindsight it did fit the trends...good performances by those carrying over 11st comply or die black appalachi and state of play...much to savour for next jumping season with walkon kalahari king mouthwatering prospects ...melling chase one of season highlights along with very good aintree hurdle...lack of early pace proved undoing for fiveforthree ...low moments came with deaths of exotic dancer and hear the echo
a timely reminder of how cruel this game can be
