Another Festival over and after a disappointing punting experience, time to have a look back (one might well learn more in adversity than success!!). The most salient point as ever is the going. While reported and seemingly riding good, it appeared to this eye that the heavy watering produced false and testing ground which along with race profiles (many short priced favourites) contributed to quicker than normal early pace.
The week got off to a traumatic start with Hurricane Fly's defeat. Not sure in hindsight, if one recovered fully from this upset, but somewhat consoled by not wallowing alone.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ctewgQcAeNc
Nevertheless we saw some fantastic performances, most notably from Nicky Henderson's contingent. Although they probably ran to their peak and in some cases above, it's difficult not to foresee bright futures for Sprinter Sacre, Simonsig and Bob's Worth.
All in all, as ever, an enthralling and exciting week's racing. Punting reversals have only whetted the appetite and looking forward to another go in 2013.
