Prior to Cheltenham, I reckoned that Tranquil Sea would win the Ryanair, but unfortunately he did not make it to the start. He will be facing more or less same rivals today in the Melling Chase and should have a good chance, if Edward O'Grady has him in good nick. Fresh from the extra break, he looks a value bet at 7/1, notwithstanding the quicker than preferred going. Based on last year's track win, Mad Max must also come into the reckoning but he has failed somewhat to progress this season.
The remainder of the card looks terrifically competitive, particularly the usually impossible to call Topham, but Westmeath (4.15) impressed greatly last time at Leopardstown and is worth a close look in an open novice hurdle.
