Today's Grand National at Aintree looks even trickier than usual with a very tightly compressed handicap. The faster going may scupper the chances of the leading contenders, in particular previous winners, Mon Mome and Comply or Die. To be honest, I don't have any strong opinions but have shortlisted Arbor Supreme, State of Play (both have form on going), Big Fella Thanks (who may drift to good price) and Ellerslie Goerge (mandatory outsider). All four have form on quicker surfaces and should run well. However the National is a spectacle to be enjoyed rather than a punting medium.
The remainder of the card looks weaker than Days 1 + 2, but very keen to see how Peddlers Cross runs. He should be too good for the others, but interested to see how he handles the going. The Aintree Hurdle sees the placed horses from the Champion Hurdle reoppose. Zaynar looks best but not at 6/4.
Nap of the day has to be Noble Alan in the novice chase, a talented horse who should relish going and track. He looks to have been laid out for this and is currently being well backed. Also like Edgebriar in the handicap chase. Skipped Cheltenham but picked up valueable handicap experience since at Bangor (each way chance).
best of luck.....
