Heading with great anticipation to Newmarket for Champions Day this afternoon. As usual, a competitive and high quality card to ponder with winners hard to find. The Dewhurst has long been a seminal race, with this year's renewal no less fascinating. Chabal looks a tenuous favourite and it's possible to give at least 3 others a serious chance. However going to go with Steinbeck (particularly at current odds), who was highly touted before winning maiden at Naas in May but reportedly wrong since. Ballydoyle may have alternative reasons for running but doubt a hot prospect like this will go off at such a good price again.
The Champions Stakes is intriguing with Fame and Glory on a redemptive mission. It looks like an afterthought and he is an obvious lay. Mawatheeq is a lightly raced improver under capable tutelage and should go close with Never on Sunday the main danger. Cuis Ghaire from the Bolger yard has a very high level of form and if right should win opener.
The day itself would not be complete without the Cesarewitch, an almost farcical event (2 miles, 36 runners and a draw bias!!), but always irresistible. A high draw appears mandatory and would tentatively proffer Sweetheart & Woolfall Treasure for a sporting bet.
enjoy and good luck....
