The two trials at Chester provided little asides from Masterofthehorse finishing like a train. South Easter was a decent winner but doubt if he has the necessary calibre to land the Derby. Today it is Lingfield which has not produced a winner since High Rise and doubtful if any of todays protagonists will match that feat. Age of Aquarius should be up normal Ballydoyle standard but interested in Father Time (nicely bred and third to a promising filly last time). Tomorrow at Leopardstown sees Mourayan take on, Fame and Glory, again. With the expected improvement for a run and 3lb concession, Mourayan should be able to confirm his credentials. The best trial in recent years, Dante at York, runs on thursday with Crowded House reappearing. The entry list suggests a hot race and a serious clues should emerge.
Best bet of weekend could be to double up Fantasia and Vocalised at Longchamp tomorrow. The former looks a certainty and the latter ran well last monday at the Curragh.
Otherwise on a more prosaic level, the Victoria Cup at Ascot is always interesting being the first of a series of highly competitive 7f handicaps over the straight course. My 2 against field for small stakes are Maze (speedy but will see out 7f and should have matured by now) and Signor Peltro (consistent and form on track).
enjoy.......
