Festival imminent now and butterflies are in full ferment. A lesson learnt last year was the effect of the difficult winter had on track and form. Thus have been keeping powder dry and left decisions to as late as possible. This winter has been even harsher and has contributed to a disjointed season with form lines hard to assess. An equally unknowable factor is the horse's well being and so far we have seen a slew of withdrawals including well fancied runners (in this corner anyhow). The perils of committing early were illustrated by Binocular's withdrawal this morning. The temptation of laying one on the exchange always clouds these situations in potential controversy but it's not easy to keep everyone happy!! Indeed was briefly tempted by Tranquil Sea's drift on Friday night until reason set in.
Nevertheless, I always like to start the week with a few multiples on the Marquee races. The year's big 4 are Hurricane Fly, Big Zeb, Big Bucks and Long Run. All four have obvious chances and rationale will follow as the week progresses.
2 days and counting....
