The only good thing about the approaching winter is Jump Racing with all roads (and thoughts) leading to Cheltenham in March. Heading to Naas today with that in mind, for a hopefully pleasant and informative afternoon. It is worth noting that this day last year provided us with the winner of the Paddy Power (Tranquil Sea from subsequent two time grade 1 winner Joncol). It's far too early for strong opinions but reckon both Son Amix and Catch Me will benefit from hefty weight advantages in their respective contests. The Bumper should also be interesting with a likely sort in Kildare Blowin and White Star Line giving us an indication to how good First Lieutenant could be.
Across the water the Charlie Hall at Wetherby, is the first proper staying chase of the season although it looks a bit sub standard, if not competitive this time. A difficult race to call but Knockarra Beau should shed some light on the merits of last season's novices. Ascot stages an interesting card with Champion hurdle hopeful Get Me Out Of Here the main attraction and Free World an interesting outsider in the United House Gold Cup.
enjoy and here's hoping for another top class season's jumping....
