"there's always tomorrow"

All bets sunk without trace today at Cheltenham but the appetite has been further whetted for the continuing fray. An interesting day with a curious set of results capped off with a 40/1 outsider scampering clear up the hill to win the bumper, leaving the Irish fancies in his wake.

The biggest surprise was Master Minded's demise. The ground was proffered as an excuse but to this eye something went amiss after the first and he was never comfortable subsequently. No doubt a rational explanation will emerge but it seems likely we have seen the best of him. Big Zeb did indeed turn out to be the biggest danger but alas, without my support (chickened out!!). Diamond Harry never travelled as well, also looking ill at ease on the ground in the RSA which won in good style by Weapons Amnesty.

Perhaps the best performance was from Peddlers Cross who hopefully will be aimed at the Arkle. Summit Meeting was unable to go the pace but plugged on gamely for fourth. However the undoubted highlight was the duel between Nina and Katie in the opener which drew the biggest roar.

The ground was a key factor strongly influencing the pace and rhythm of the races and although they will water tonight, it is expected to ride quick again tomorrow. In that light, a certain amount of rethinking at the billet is required this evening!!

bis morgen.....
