Merci, Mick

A poignant day for this punter at least as Mick Kinane announced his retirement from race riding. No other jockey has provided this punter with as many winners of big races or at big meetings as the redoubtable M.J. Kinane. Culminating this season with his exemplary handling of the Sea The Stars, where his full range of skills were highlighted. It is doubtful that without his intelligent riding, Sea the Stars would have achieved all he did, but there have been many more examples over the past 30 years including triumphs around the globe.

Personal favourites that stand out are Tirol (2,000 guineas 1990), Grand Lodge (St. James Palace Stakes 1994), Better Offer (1m 4f handicap Ascot 1996), Montjeu (Arc 1999), Galileo (Epsom 2001) and Azamour (Irish Champion 2003).

Thanks for the memories and all the best.....
